Zach Wiley is a Virginia-born, North Carolina-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
The start: 1992 - Most of Wiley’s childhood was spent on a Buffalo Bus touring with his mother’s gospel band. These times left him a sense of home and comfort in traditional music. In his early teens, (and after hearing Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band for the first time), he acquired a passed down acoustic guitar, Fender bass, his first drum kit, a hand-me-down upright piano and basic home recording gear which would inspire him to write and record hundreds of twisted-traditional home demos that led to an interest in forming his first group.
Savannah Shoulders: 2010 -2012 2010 brought Wiley’s first taste of touring and professional recording with “original alternative high energy rock band” Savannah Shoulders, in which he was the primary songwriter, singer and drummer. That same year also marked their regionally well-received, independent debut release, Another Light. Over the next few years, the band would open for notable acts such as Carbon Leaf, Will Hoge, Alejandro Escovedo, and The Vespers. Towards their disbandment in January 2012, Tad Dickens (Music Columnist for The Roanoke Times) wrote “… Zach Wiley is becoming one heck of a songwriter.”
The River Pilots: 2015 - On February 10th, 2015, Wiley and long-time friend and musical collaborator Robert Natt released their self-titled record called The River Pilots, later being featured in the Fall 2015 issue of Taylor Guitar’s publication Wood and Steel Magazine: “A warm acoustic current flows through the recent self-titled release from The River Pilots, an Americana duo comprised of singer-songwriters Robert Natt and Zach Wiley. Based in Roanoke, Virginia and Raleigh, North Carolina, respectively, the two bonded a few years back through shared musical tastes that favor a melodic acoustic sound, sweet vocal harmonies, and tastefully distilled arrangements. Their resulting musical collaboration manages to shine with tonal richness while also embracing the simplicity of a good melody."
Alberta Delft Blue: 2019 - After years of musical collaboration and having pulled inspiration from places like Spain, his home state of Virginia and his current home in Raleigh, North Carolina, Wiley has written and recorded his purest endeavor to date, debut solo record Alberta Delft Blue, handling most instruments and co-producing with friend, (producer/engineer/musician) Stewart Myers. Recorded in January 2019 in Richmond, VA, Alberta Delft Blue is a nostalgic hat tip to his childhood travels through Appalachia and the eastern shore of Virginia, an ear-catching segway into sonically rich autumnal indie rock.
